So, after 12 months in the creating and planning, the TILT 16 class and show programme is almost finished, and we've only got until July to make it all happen! Thankfully, we're pleased to say that there is an amazing team of artists and companies ready to deliver the host of workshops and performances that TILT 16 has in store, and so we prepare to leave you in their capable hands for what really is going to be a week of sheer awesome aerial and physical theatre goodness.
I am pleased to say that I have worked, trained, performed or a bit of all of it with all the artists on the programme, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this Festival has something for everyone and you won't be disappointed!
Training with the fabulous Sarah Bebe Holmes, both at the European Aerial Dance Festival and at Victoria Works, has been a real experience. I am super hoping she will deliver a Bowie tribute dance party warm up at the start of class (if you have never experienced her dance party warm ups then there is a treat in store!), crazy 'sit on me please and bend me as far as you can' intensive stretch cool down, and I know she'll be sharing much of her aerial wisdom with you all. She's poppng down from Edinburgh to be with us for the week so if I know Sarah that means that she'll be on a mission to dangle as much as possible after being cooped up in a car for 6 hours.
Then of course there is the marvelous Mark Glover, who has taught some of the world's best Cyr Wheelers and is one of the leading teachers for Cyr Wheel, oh and he's completely lovely by the way. Mark was last with us in March for a Cyr masterclass, seeing all kinds of levels, heights, abilities, wheel their way around RoguePlay's space, (West Midlands Creation Centre), and not a mirror break or broken finger in sight! I managed to be part of what can only be described as a 'kartwheel machine', where two men were in charge of wheeling me about as I was incapable of managing it myself without falling out and face planting (I'm a dangler darlings not a wheeler!), perhaps this time I will find my inner ninja and make a full kartwheel in a Cyr on my own, (crash mats at the ready).
We also have the amazing and quite disgracefully bendy Ambra Vallo. If you don't know Ambra, she was lead Ballerina at Birmingham Royal Ballet for 14 years and now a Rocket, Dharma and Forrest Yoga teacher. The combination of these two things makes her almost completely indestructable. Imagine Arnie, Cat Woman and Flex Armstrong all rolled into one and you've pretty much got Ambra Vallo. If you can't put your legs behind your head then she can help, if you can't sit in the splits and lick your own feet then she can help, and if you can't drink a coffee and read a newspaper whilst being in a forearm balance, then Ambra's your woman.
And there are many more teachers, but what about shows? Well, check out the Wednesday night line up. There are 4 amazing shows for you from local to international artists, and it's basically a combo of live music, Jim Morrison and some hiking boots all washed down by a good handful of ash. (Intrigued? Yeah, I thought you might be), plus....wait, I'm not finished yet......there's a young people's night, which is set to be awesome aerial and physical goodness from a line up of 5 young companies. We'll be calling out for these soon so keep your eyes peeled, but there's definately some aerial Midsummer Night's Dream coming your way from RoguePlay's Young Aerialists and Young Actors combined. In a nutshell, check out the shows page for more info and the ticket booking will be open soon.
In the meantime, get your social fingers over to instagram and get on the #TILT16 vibe people. We re-gram, re-face, re-tweet, re-flip and re-flop (ok, I might have made those last two up), so basically get using it and we'll give back what you send out.
TILT is coming.......whoop whoop!
Love & chin ups
